Each time I travel to France I search out new hotels to visit. And lucky for me France has many outstandingly beautiful places to stay. On my latest trip to Avignon I stayed at the very gracious, very French, La Mirande. I loved everything about it – their extraordinary attention to detail, the quiet luxury, the way they anticipated every little thing a weary guest could want. I came home inspired and re-invigorated by such high standards and excited at the thought of adding some of this French essence to our own accommodation at Hopewood Country House. To have our own guests experience complete escapism – to sink lazily into luxurious sheets at the end of the day and to wake next morning to fresh flowers, their favourite music and beauty at every turn. The Beauty of Books

These gorgeous bundles have just been flown in from the latest Maison Objet fair in Paris. I love them! Covetable clutches of antique style books, sold in bundles of 5 small, through to grand tabletop tomes. Almost better than the originals. The pages inside are blank and the recyled paper is velvety to the touch. Divine!

Christmas Portraits at Hopewood

Wanting a family portrait? Visit our Open Day on October 31st and November 1st and view an exhibition of works by Illawarra based photographer Susan Gruber. On the day you can book in for special pre-Christmas sittings with Susan, to be held at Hopewood 3 weeks later, on November 22 … and your portrait prints will be ready for Christmas gifts and cards. Susan is donating $20.00 from every booking taken at Hopewood to the Under 13’s Illawarra Representative Rugby Union Team to help them on their way to tour New Zealand next year.

Celebrating Local Talent

I was thrilled to recently discover another stunningly talented local artisan here in the Southern Highlands. Floral Stylist Margaret Young-Whitford creates beautiful bespoke floral arrangements and installations for weddings and other occasions.

You may have seen Margaret’s work at our Autumn Open Day at Hopewood and will know what I’m talking about … and I’m pleased to advise she has agreed to conduct Floral and Gift Wrapping classes at our Spring Open Day on the weekend of October 31 and November 1st. To book call Margaret on 02 4862 2115 or 0410 622 340. Full details for these and our Cooking Classes will be posted shortly.

So remember, if you want to make a unique and memorable statement befitting your significant occasion give Margaret a call. She can also supply an extensive range of accessories that are available for hire to help embellish your day.
